Mayfield Heights is a busy business community, with offices, medical practices, restaurants and retailers spread along Mayfield Road and the streets around it. I am Josh Katz, a CPA who grew up in Cleveland and has spent more than fifteen years keeping the books and filing the taxes for small businesses across the east side. My office is in Beachwood, a short drive away. If you run a business in Mayfield Heights and want an accountant who works close to you, this page is for you.
Who I work with in Mayfield Heights
The mix here is broad. There are medical and dental offices around Hillcrest Hospital, restaurants and retailers along Mayfield Road, professional offices, contractors and trades, and small service companies of every kind. A medical practice cares about collections and provider compensation. A restaurant or retailer cares about inventory, tips and sales tax. A contractor cares about job costing and getting paid on time. I set up the books around how your business actually works.
What monthly bookkeeping includes
Whatever your industry, the monthly work looks like this.
Reconciled accounts every month. Bank, credit card and loan statements tied out so the numbers are right.
Financial statements on schedule. A balance sheet and profit and loss statement you can read and use, delivered on time.
Payroll that matches the ledger. Your payroll provider, whether that is Gusto, ADP or another system, synced with your books so wages and payroll taxes are tracked correctly.
A CPA who answers the phone. Questions come up in July, not just in April. You get direct access to me.
Monthly bookkeeping starts at $350. Individual tax returns start at $800 and business returns start at $1,500. Every fee is flat and quoted before the work begins. You can see the full list on my services page.
Mayfield Heights taxes, handled locally
Mayfield Heights’ municipal income tax is administered by the Regional Income Tax Agency, known as RITA, at a rate of 1.5%. Businesses located here owe tax on net profit, and employers withhold for employees who work in the city. Residents who pay tax to another city generally receive a credit for it, up to the city’s 1.5% rate. It gets more complicated when your staff or your owners live and work in different places. I explain how that works in my guide to Ohio municipal income tax, RITA and CCA.
If your business has grown quickly, it is also worth checking where you stand on the Ohio Commercial Activity Tax. Many small businesses that once filed no longer need to.
Meet in person, or not
Most clients send documents electronically and meet by video, which keeps things simple. When you would rather sit down in person, my Beachwood office is a short drive from Mayfield Heights. You can read more about my background on the about page.
