Solon has one of the strongest business bases in Northeast Ohio: manufacturers, distributors, contractors and technical companies filling the industrial parks, alongside the professional offices and local shops that serve a busy suburb. I am Josh Katz, a Beachwood CPA a short drive up the road, and I have spent more than fifteen years helping businesses like these keep clean books and stay current on their taxes.

Bookkeeping for businesses that make, move and build things

A lot of Solon companies have bookkeeping needs that go beyond a simple service business. Inventory has to be valued correctly. Job costs have to land on the right job. Equipment has to be tracked and depreciated. Sales to customers in other states can create filing obligations elsewhere. When those pieces are not set up right, the profit and loss statement stops telling you the truth, and decisions about pricing, hiring and equipment get harder than they need to be.

I set up the chart of accounts around how your business actually runs, reconcile every account monthly, and deliver financial statements you can rely on.

What monthly bookkeeping includes

Monthly reconciliations of bank, credit card and loan accounts.

A chart of accounts built for your industry, so your reports show margins by product line or job, not just one big number.

Payroll synced with your ledger, whether you use Gusto, ADP or another provider.

Balance sheet and profit and loss statements delivered on a schedule you can count on.

Monthly bookkeeping starts at $350. Business tax returns start at $1,500 and individual returns start at $800, all flat fees quoted up front. The details are on my services page.

Solon city tax and crews in the field

Solon’s municipal income tax is collected by RITA, and the rate is 2.0%. For a business based in Solon, the complications usually come from people working outside the city. A contractor with crews spending weeks on job sites in Cleveland, Twinsburg or Beachwood may owe withholding to those cities once an employee passes the 20 day threshold, and net profit may need to be apportioned among several cities. I walk through how that works in my guide to Ohio municipal income tax, RITA and CCA.

Growing past $6 million

Solon is home to a lot of companies with real revenue. If your Ohio gross receipts are approaching $6 million, the Ohio Commercial Activity Tax comes back into play, with quarterly filing and a 30 day registration window once you cross the threshold. Monthly books make it easy to see that coming.
